A landmark facility for health and experiences

Southwest General Health Center, Pandrangi Tower, Cleveland, Ohio

Designed to respond to Southwest General Health Center’s (SGHC) highest performance priorities, the “Pandrangi Tower” accommodates continued growth while driving care interventions that enhance the patient and staff experience. In the main ED, triage rooms, a dedicated rapid assessment area, and discharge area with reclining chairs where patients can receive care from the multidisciplinary team free up critical treatment spaces for additional patient care. On inpatient floors, the innovative, 8-bed “neighborhood” layout minimizes the number of steps from decentralized nurse stations to patient rooms and equipment rooms, increasing patient visibility and improving staffing ratios.

The architecture of the building and the overall floor plan configuration responds to the unique site and beautiful vistas of the neighboring Metroparks, using ‘bends and folds’ to maximize opportunities for views. Open-air balconies and enclosed winter gardens provide unique areas for patients, staff, and visitors to spend time outdoors–promoting tranquility and respite. The new tower has both physically and operationally changed the face of the campus and positioned the hospital to meet the growing needs of community it serves.
