From lonely building to thriving hub for recreation, community, wellness and life

Harper College Foglia Foundation Health and Recreation Center, Palatine, IL

Our team helped Harper College transform what students had previously dubbed “the loneliest building on campus” into a state-of-the-art dynamic hub for wellness, recreation, health education and athletics. The project’s innovation and success begins with the partnership and financial structure that drove it. Harper College, the Palatine Park District of Palatine, IL, and Northwest Community Healthcare teamed to make the project a reality, contributing funds, ideas and operational resources.

The renewed facility offers Harper students and community residents exciting rec and wellness offerings including extensive cardio and weight training space, a four-court field-house for open recreation and sports leagues, a 1/8-mile suspended jogging track, a six-lane pool for open and family swim, multi-functional programming space, and a Northwest Community Hospital Outpatient Care Center with X-ray suite, 12 exam rooms, physical therapy space and more. Thanks to this transformation, the building is now one of the most “highly trafficked and engaged buildings on campus,” according to Harper College President Dr. Ken Ender.

“We’re showing our educational community and taxpayers what the future of public institutions look like,” Ender added. “Not only in this district and state, but across the country.”
