Emergency Medicine

Designing care for patients of all acuity levels, including the most critical.

Our philosophy

Emergency rooms have evolved from a place solely for the most dire medical traumas to providing all levels of care and acting as a critical safety net for much of the population.

Healthcare organizations are now positioning their emergency departments as conduits for change and care model innovation, seeing they are playing a crucial role in chronic disease management and controlling hospital admissions.

From triage to trauma, mental health crises to observation, emergency departments must provide a wide range of acuity and care, creating a level of complexity that requires design informed by operational, facility, service and clinical best practices. With high patient turnover, varied case complexity and a large cross-trained staff, the design of an emergency department has proven critical to its function.

Our emergency department teams have designed facilities ranging from free-standing new emergency departments to complete renovations and expansions. With every project, we partner with our clients to design spaces that maximize departmental resources, accommodate fluctuating patient volume, leverage data and simulation modeling and facilitate a smooth patient experience.
