Mount Sinai Medical Center Surgical Tower and Emergency Center Receives Honorable Mention in Healthcare Design Showcase

Mount Sinai’s emergency department and patient tower showcases Miami Beach’s distinctive landscape and sets a new tone for the city’s only hospital.

We’re proud to share Mount Sinai Medical Center Surgical Tower and Emergency Center is one of four projects awarded a Honorable Mention in this year’s Healthcare Design Showcase.

Seventeen jurors, appointed by our partner organizations (The Center for Health Design, IIDA, and ASID), evaluated this year’s project submissions on the criteria of Innovation, Aesthetics, Operations/Functionality and Experience.

Mount Sinai’s expansion reflects Miami Beach’s distinctive landscape, Miami Modern style and culture. This is done by putting the stunning coastal views on display through a grand, light-filled atrium, floor-to-ceiling windows in patient rooms and the interior color palette of blues and greens in furniture and artwork. The sculptural exterior form utilizes compound curves and becomes a canvas for the play of shadow and light, creating a fluid architectural identity and providing a contemporary take on Miami’s art deco heritage.

Last year, Texas Children’s Hospital, Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower was named a Finalist project.
