CannonDesigners in St. Louis recently participated for the first time in the annual “We Care” event. This charitable event, co-hosted by international design firm Herman Miller and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, provides children who may not otherwise be able to afford gifts for friends and family the opportunity to craft gifts for their loved ones. Each year Herman Miller reaches out to local design teams and asks them to come up with a craft that can be made by children ages 5-13. The St. Louis Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center received the user-centered award in the 2015 Symposium Distinction Awards presented by Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo and FacilityCare. The Specialty Care Center is the only project in the nation to receive this year’s award, which recognizes a “healthcare design project or facility that best reflects and balances the requirements of patients, their family and practitioners.” The Specialty Care Center is one of only a few stand-alone, comprehensive outpatient facilities in the U.S. focused exclusively on patients up to the age of 21. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) St. Louis chapter hosted its annual awards event in late September to recognize stand out design work in the city and region from the past year. The awards program seeks to recognize excellence across architecture, interiors, unbuilt work and craftsmanship with a focus on acknowledging work that improves the spaces where we work, live, play and recreate.
