CannonDesign, in partnership with Mitchell Giurgola, is leading the modernization of five of the original Carnegie libraries within the NY Public Library system. Steeped in historic character, the iconic buildings will be renovated to expand usable space and enhance community engagement in high-needs areas across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Join the leader of our New York City education practice, Phil Dordai, and a panel of experts (moderated by Margaret Sullivan) to learn about the roles that design, accessibility, sustainability, and technology play in transforming these well-known centers for public learning and engagement.
Phil shared, “These libraries represent one of the most far-reaching and generous gifts ever to the City of NY. Their complete renovations will preserve the original character and gracious sense of space of the original designs, while bringing the buildings into the 21st century programmatically and environmentally. Most importantly each branch at 125th St., 179th St., and Port Richmond will be able to better serve their local communities that have relied upon them for so many years!
