Revolutionizing Lab Renovation
Higher education facilities around the US are facing the challenge of aging labs inside existing buildings—some with historical value and importance to the campus fabric. Yale University’s Sterling Chemistry Lab is undergoing a major transformation while preserving the exterior architecture of the historic building. In a bold approach to sustainability and preservation, the design solution carves out the old building interior, inserts state-of-the-art chemistry and biology labs and marries the new science environment with the existing building shell.
Thinking Outside the Box to Achieve LEED Platinum
It takes more than the “norm” to achieve LEED Platinum. Hear about some truly innovative sustainable solutions with measurable outcomes utilized in Eckerd College’s James Center for Molecular and Life Sciences including a unique air-conditioning system, which capitalizes upon reclaimed, non-potable water from the nearby St. Petersburg wastewater treatment facility to cool the building in the hot Florida climate.
