novartisMyung Kim, AIA, LEED AP and Stephen Copenhagen, LEED AP, will present at the National Institutes of Health’s Division of Technical Resources to discuss cGMP facility design as part of the division’s continuing education series.

Their presentation will discuss the award-winning Novartis-Penn Center for Advanced Cellular Therapies (CACT), a cGMP facility occupying one floor of an 8 story expansion atop of the existing and occupied 8-story Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine on Penn Medicine’s Philadelphia campus.

This challenging site selection choice puts the CACT in the ideal location amidst clinical care and laboratory facilities, which elevates it to a central hub for research and early development of personalized cellular therapies for cancer. As a “box-within-a-box,” the modular clean room system allowed the design team the flexibility to mold and shape the clean room manufacturing environment into the boundaries and low floor-to-floor height of the high-rise envelope while maximizing daylight and views.
