A remarkable community resource, the 15,500-sf library features an extensive collection, community space, craft and study rooms, computer work spaces, an area for teens and a children’s library. It is also designed as a warm, inviting space with open areas and extensive natural daylighting.
“The community has been waiting for this library for a long, long time. It is like a dream come true, I am beyond excited,” said Friends of the Desert Hot Springs Library President Linda Crowson.
The Desert Hot Springs Library is one of three transformational libraries approved by the County of Riverside in 2019. The other two community libraries are also nearing completion in the cities of Menifee and French Valley.
“The beauty of this library is it provides us access and equity, because it’s for everybody,” said Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “This space right here that (Desert Hot Springs) has, it’s your space. You can come here, you can check out a book, you can get on the Internet, you can have a community meeting about the future of your city.”
Beyond introducing cutting-edge community resources, the new library is also significantly larger than its predecessor – a small 3,000+ SF library. Having a larger library is key to Desert Hot Springs as it has experienced significant population growth and development in recent decades. This new library is right-sized for the community it supports.
