CannonDesign Secures Two AIA St Louis Design Awards

We are proud to share the AIA St Louis chapter has recognized our work with both the Mount Sinai Medical Center and Square with 2021 design awards.

During a ceremony earlier this week, both projects received merit awards. The Square workplace in St. Louis received distinction for interior design and the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Skolnick Surgical Tower and Hildebrandt Emergency Center for architecture.

Square transformed the former St. Louis Post Dispatch building into a cutting-edge workplace and rejuvenated urban asset. The breakthrough workplace echoes key themes of equity, empowerment, and ingenuity, as it remakes the building as a community catalyst reflective of the Square’s mission.

The workplace melds modern design, historic urban fabric, and a community-focused mission to create a renewed neighborhood anchor: a nexus integrating small businesses, entrepreneurs, and community members with the organization’s dynamic workspace each day. With this new bold space, Square can expand its local workforce, recruit, and retain top talent while fueling growth strategies in the future.

On the architecture side, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fl features compound curves to reflect Miami’s deep-rooted art deco heritages. The interior color palette is filled with blues and greens to bring out the ocean-like theme of the city. And most importantly, the building allows for stunning coastal views where staff and patients can watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean.

Given the hospital’s unique coastal location the building is designed as a safe haven from weather-related disasters. The center also houses the city’s emergency command center to manage response and recovery effort during and after natural disasters.
