CannonDesign Named ENR California Design Firm of the Year

We’re proud to share Engineering News-Record (ENR) California has named CannonDesign its 2020 Design Firm of the Year.

This is an exciting moment for our team as ENR California seeks to identify a design company whose design work, community engagement and commitment to excellence stand out from the previous year. The full announcement can be read online.

This award comes as our California teams are leading numerous standout projects in California, including:

The LAC+USC Restorative Care Village, which will introduce a new kind of environment to help people in LA County with unstable living conditions. The project takes a comprehensive approach to the interrelated and complex needs of homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, job training/housing and medical co-morbidity. The village will be largely modular with both a Recuperative Care Center and a Residential Treatment Program.

The recently opened Academic Core at Ohlone College is a dynamic group of buildings, including a science center with modern labs and prep room, a music and visual arts center, and a learning commons housing a learning center, study rooms and a library. The project has a long-term goal of net-zero energy consumption with design features including an on-site solar farm and  a new geothermal ground loop system that will heat and cool the new buildings.

Our commercial team helped Atlassian design its new Mountain View workplace focused on human authenticity. The project introduces amenity spaces that exude inclusivity and acceptance, and work settings that promote choice and flexibility.

Our team led the design for Kaiser Permanente’s Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, which is opening later this year. The school’s mission is to provide a world-class medical education that ignites a passion for learning, a desire to serve, and an unwavering commitment to improve the health and well-being of patients and communities.

The Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s Thompson Autism Center is one of just a handful of clinics across the country dedicated solely to diagnosing, managing and treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The center infuses leading-edge research around creating successful environments for those with ASD and first hand patient and parent experience.

This recognition from ENR builds on exciting momentum for CannonDesign in California. The firm has previously been recognized as a World Changing Company, the Health Organization of the Year, and one of the Most Innovative Architecture Companies on the planet.
